Bodily Injury Liability
Injuries that you (insured) cause to someone else is covered under this part of a
motorcycle insurance policy. This is not required in Florida unless you displayed a
financial irresponsibility following an accident. The minimum liability insurance
coverage available for purchase in Florida is 10/20 and is explained in detail below.
However, we recommend that you choose liability insurance coverage amounts that
are much higher than the minimums listed below. Contact us at (352) 686-0612 or
(727) 863-5641 to discuss what liability coverage amounts you require to meet your
family or personal needs.
Florida Liability Coverage limits explanation:
10/20/10 10=$10,000 - 20=$20,000 - 10=$10,000
First number = bodily injury liability maximum for one person injured in an
accident.
Second number = bodily injury liability maximum for all injuries in one
accident.
Third number = property damage liability maximum for one accident.
Property Damage Liability
Damage caused by the insured (you) to someone else's property, such as a
motorcycle, car, fence, or house, is covered through property damage motorcycle
insurance coverage. The minimum coverage amount in Florida is $10,000.
Medical payments coverage pays for the medical and funeral expenses for you or
others hurt or killed in an accident while riding on or driving your motorcycle.
Claims against this coverage include all reasonable hospital, surgical,
chiropractor, X-ray, dental, professional nursing, prosthetic, and funeral expenses.
It will also cover you or members of your family if you are hit by a car when you
are walking or if you are riding on another motorcycle. This coverage will pay for
your medical and funeral expenses even if you cause the accident. The coverage
is often limited to medical care you get in the first one, two, or three years after the
accident and is limited to a specific dollar amount. This is not a required Florida
Motorcycle Insurance coverage.
20/40 20=$20,000 - 40=$40,000
First number = uninsured motorist maximum for one person injured
in an accident.
Second number = uninsured motorist maximum for all injuries in one
accident.

Covers the insured (you) for your bodily injury caused by a hit-and-run driver or an
at-fault driver who has no auto or motorcycle liability insurance. This is not a
required coverage for Florida Motorcycle Insurance. Contact us to discuss what
uninsured coverage amounts you require to meet your family and personal needs.
This coverage comes into play when an at-fault driver has auto or motorcycle
liability insurance, but the limit of insurance is inadequate to pay for your damages.
This type of motorcycle insurance coverage pays for your medical expenses, lost
wages, and other damages when you or your passengers are injured in an
accident caused by a driver who has insufficient auto or motorcycle insurance
coverage. The motorcycle insurance coverage typically pays the difference
between the coverage limit you select and the other driver's bodily injury coverage
limit. This is not a required Florida motorcycle insurance coverage.

Florida Motorcycle Insurance FAQ
Does Wearing a Helmet Decrease My Motorcycle Insurance Premium

Wearing a motorcycle helmet reduces the cost of medical treatment, length of hospital stay and probability of
long-term disability. This was the conclusion in a recent study by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
pertaining to riders injured in a motorcycle crash. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
basically agreed with the CDC by saying that non-helmeted riders have higher health care costs as a result of
brain injuries.

Unfortunately, raising the cost of motorcycle costs for everyone is that an un-helmeted rider is more likely to be
uninsured; and only about half of injured riders carry separate health insurance coverage.
Will Motorcycle Insurance Be Expensive

As with auto and boat insurance, what type of motorcycle you drive and how safely you drive it are important
factors that affect your Florida motorcycle insurance cost. The most important factors in determining your
policy costs are listed below.

The factors of you:
+ Your age - a young rider is more of a risk than a middle aged one
+ Your riding experience - a new rider is more at risk than a seasoned one
+ Your driving record - how many tickets
+ Your location - an urban area is more of a risk than a county or rural area.
+ Your accident record - same as above, it builds a picture of your 'risk rating'
+ Your occupation - a rock musician can be expected to have a different 'risk rating' compared to a teacher

The factors of your motorcycle:
+ A larger 1000cc racebike replica would attract a higher risk rating than a 250cc scooter
+ Modifications or tuning - tells the insurance company that this is not a normal motorycle risk
+ Value - a motorcycle worth $20,000 will be more than one you bought at a yard sale for $200
+ Age of Bike - a 10 year old standard is less risk than a new sportbike
+ Location - safer if parked at night in your garage, and therefore less risk than if it's on the street in a
downtown area
